The “Wank” is the panoramic mountain of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You don’t only have stunning views from the summit but also especially from the sunny southern facing slopes. This hike is especially appealing thanks to the mountain farmhouses which are beautifully situated and also naturally appealing to stop at for a bite to eat. A relaxing winter hiking path with gentle inclines, where you should also really take your time to enjoy the magical viewpoints. The tour starts in Partenkirchen. From the centre in the Ludwigstraße take the Sonnenbergstraße, then pass the Antonius and Florians fountains into the Fauckenstraße and follow the Hasentalstraße until the edge of town. In the meantime you’ll have climbed a little bit above Partenkirchen into a pretty noble residential area with spectacular views of the mountains.
From the edge of the village the path leads straight on and gently climbs up over the Alpine meadows and along the edge of the wood to the Pfeiffer Alm at nearly 1,000m high. You’ll reach the hut after about a good hour’s walk. On the left up above the path is the hut. But that’s only an interim stop. It’s another half hour to get to the Gschwandtnerbauer at 1,024 metres. A typical mountain farmhouse with a small, romantic chapel and an impressive view of the Wetterstein mountains and the Karwendel range. Now it’s really time for a break and a hearty snack. The home-made organic delicacies are spot-on here at the Geschwandtnerbauer. After this the path leads gently back down towards Partenkirchen.
