Marienplatz with town hall and carillon

Since the city was founded in 1158 by Henry the Lion, Marienplatz has been the center of Munich. Today, you can enjoy a coffee in the shade of the New and Old Town Halls and watch the hustle and bustle. One of the most important attractions on Marienplatz is the carillon in the town hall tower, which attracts numerous onlookers from all over the world every day at 11am, 12pm and, in summer, also at 5pm.

Church of Our Lady

Visible from afar, the twin towers of the Frauenkirche tower into the sky and dominate the Munich skyline like no other building. It is very important to many locals that this remains the case for a long time to come: in 2004, they decided in a referendum that no new building in Munich should be taller than the Frauenkirche at 98.57 meters.

English Garden

With an area of around 640 soccer pitches, the English Garden is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world. It connects the natural landscape of the Isar floodplains in the north of Munich with the old town. The sights in the English Garden include the Monopteros on a hill with a unique view, the surfers on the unique Eisbach wave, the Japanese teahouse and Kleinhesseloher See.

Nymphenburg Palace

Nymphenburg Palace and its park were already famous throughout Europe in the 18th century. Today it is a green oasis for everyone in the middle of the city. The focal point of the palace is the Stone Hall with its cycle of frescoes, framed by lavish rococo stuccowork. A long walk through the 200-hectare palace park is recommended to visit the park castles.
