Really active: Graveling in the Tölzer Land

Cycling

The Tölzer Land region has published seven new gravel bike tours in collaboration with cyclist Sara Hallbauer: with numerous insider tips, between around 30 and 90 km long, from 380 to 1130 meters in altitude and always through the beautiful foothills of the Alps - from Wolfratshausen to the source of the Isar. Curious? Then let's go graveling in the Tölzer Land

Beautiful gravel: 400 kilometers of the finest gravel tours

Gravel bikes combine the advantages of road bikes and mountain bikes, meaning: away from cars and asphalt, without having to go straight into alpine terrain. In the Tölzer Land region, beginners and experts alike will find exciting tours for fantastic gravel enjoyment:

For beginners: the "Eurasburger Gravel Gmoa Runde"

With 43 kilometers and 380 meters of elevation gain, this Alpine panorama tour is perfect for connoisseurs and for after work. It starts at the S-Bahn station in Wolfratshausen. Incidentally, the tours have all been selected so that it is possible to travel in carpools or by public transport. After the warm-up on the asphalt section of the official cycle path, the route is wonderfully varied thanks to beer gardens, gravel paths through the moor and along the Loisach-Isar Canal.

For the discerning: gravel deluxe through the Oberland

Those who have been in the saddle for a while will be delighted with the Gravel Deluxe tour with swimming stops (86 kilometers and 1130 meters in altitude). The "highlight of all gravel routes" leads from Lenggries to Walchensee and Sylvensteinspeicher over the most beautiful gravel paths that the Oberland has to offer. You get close enough to the lively shores of Lake Walchensee for a swimming break, but then soon gain altitude again and enjoy the beautiful view from above. Water plays a major role on this tour, be it the glistening turquoise-blue Isar with a view of the Karwendel or the Sylvensteinspeicher, a bathing lake with largely unspoilt shores framed by the foothills of the Alps. Sara Hallbauer's conclusion: "The Gravel Deluxe route offers maximum experience and riding fun, but is also very demanding. It requires a very good level of fitness and advanced riding technique."

To the Gravel Deluxe round

For all routes, Sara provides insider tips on the best places to stop for refreshments and the cultural highlights along the way. The detailed tour profiles also reveal who the route is suitable for and how challenging it is. The ideal tire width is also discussed.

As some sections of the route run through nature reserves, Sara Hallbauer and the Tölzer Land region ask that you observe the rules that apply there so that the intact natural environment can be preserved as a recreational area. For her, the journey is the reward and she wants to inspire more women to take up what she considers to be the most beautiful sport in the world. Sara Hallbauer is a passionate cyclist: whether on an endurance racing bike, gravel bike or bikepacking bike - for the woman from Wackersberg, the main thing is to be on the move. The 43-year-old has already cycled across Germany from the Rhine to Cape Arkona and completed 500 kilometers through Tuscany on the Tuscany Trail. Probably her greatest achievement was the "Northcape 4000" ultracycling race, which took her to the North Cape after 17 days, 4,500 kilometers and 30,000 meters of altitude - as the second solo woman in an unsupported bikepacking adventure. Despite top sporting performance, Sara always puts the joy of riding first.
