Bright spots in the Chiemsee-Alpenland

Winter

FROM MEDITATION, BOSNA AND RELAXATION IN THE BADRIA.

When a person thinks they have reached their goal, they are only at the beginning.

Admittedly, this sentence anticipates the end of the meditation trail in Wasserburg am Inn and yet points to a certain cycle. And fittingly, Hesse also said that there is magic in every beginning. It is exactly the same with the meditation trail - especially if you walk it in winter, as we did. The cool air, the light frost under your shoes. It is a special form of contemplation that Wasserburg am Inn offers here. But the Chiemsee-Alpenland region has many more surprising bright spots to offer in winter.

8 bright spots for winter in the Chiemsee-Alpenland

Winter hikes by boat
The Chiemsee boat trip is a highlight in itself. But we combine it with active pursuits, as this is especially good in winter and provides plenty of inner warmth. We can choose to explore the Herreninsel and/or Frauueninsel. The hike around the Herreninsel is the more athletic option at just under 10 km, while the Fraueninsel is a little more leisurely at just over 1 km. Both options are definitely exciting, especially in winter.

On the trail of the Rosenheim Cops
A must for fans of the popular ZDF series. Here we can discover new and old filming locations in the footsteps of the series and get to know the city in a completely new way. Not possible as a guided tour during lockdown, but true fans can do it on their own - here is a flyer from the city of Rosenheim to help you find your way around.

The Kolbermoor spinning mill
This unique industrial monument in the region with its exposed brick façade is today a beautiful testimony to Kolbermoor's industrial past. The economically attractive combination of rail connection and water power led to the construction of the cotton mill and six workers' houses in 1861. Further housing followed, which is still preserved today. "There is no comparable ensemble of workers' housing estates in rural areas anywhere in Bavaria." (State Office for Monument Protection)

The Wasserburg beer catacombs
The impressive summer beer cellars, some of which are over 200 years old, were once used to store beer, which for a long time could only be brewed in winter for hygiene reasons. The system of corridors and vaults dug deep into the mountain provides a varied insight into the art of brewing and construction of earlier generations. The museum in the cellars can only be visited as part of a guided tour of the beer cellars.

Wasserburg Sculpture Trail
The trail follows the River Inn around the town for around 1.5 km. Artists from the local art association "Arbeitskreis 68" exhibit over 30 works there.

Enjoy bosna at the iconic stand
For a small snack in between, head to the iconic bosna stand on Marienplatz. Some people rightly ask what bosna is. Bosna is a spiced sausage wrapped in white bread and garnished with mustard and onions. A local specialty in south-eastern Upper Bavaria.

Enjoying the countryside on the circular cycle route
The Wasserburg circular cycle route is for connoisseurs who want to combine sporty exercise with a continuous feast for the eyes and culinary delights. So it's perfect for us - even in winter.

Wasserburger Runde from Attel to Inn
Here we follow the Inn through the Inn floodplains to Attel. We take a look at Attel Monastery with St. Michael's Church and return via a different route. We also pass the confluence of the Inn and Attel rivers.
