WINTER IN (UPPER) BAVARIAN: 8 WONDERFUL HIKES

Upper Bavaria in winter - it has its very own charm. The wide fields and hills disappear under a glistening layer of snow. Proud mountain peaks - including Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze - present themselves in all their winter splendor. And the well-known towns in the region, including Munich and Rosenheim, also dress up in their most beautiful winter attire.

It is the time that follows the often far too gray autumn and when people are particularly keen to venture outside again. Wrapped up warm, we trudge off into the winter wonderland. Even if we are still trying to hold back on our excursions and, for the safety of everyone around us, are spending the Christmas period mainly indoors, we can already look forward to our trips out in the snow when we head out into nature again for longer hikes.

They take you to places in the region that are particularly beautiful in winter. You will hike to the shores of the picturesque Egglburger See lake and follow in the footsteps of Empress Sisi. You make your way through the almost meditative landscape around Maria Thalheim, explore the popular Tegernsee region and embark on the unforgettable Kammerl circuit near Saulgrub. Of course, your list of places to visit in Upper Bavaria also includes the Königssee, one of the region's most popular photo motifs, and the city of Munich itself.

If you would like to know more about what we are raving about here, browse through our tour recommendations and get a first taste of winter hiking in Upper Bavaria. Sturdy shoes with a non-slip sole are recommended, warm clothing is essential and hiking poles will give you additional stability.

We don't yet know when all the refreshment stops on the tours will reopen - until then, simply bring your own snacks and a thermos flask of steaming tea. Look forward to an unforgettable time in winter paradise.
