Bright spots around Berchtesgaden

Winter

SO CLOSE TO THE MOUNTAINS.

Impressive lakes, royal candlelight and pure relaxation underground.

These are the ingredients from which the bright spots around Berchtesgaden are made. The mountain experiences are right on the doorstep. Getting here by train is easy and the activities range between mountain and valley, between traditional Bavarian village centers and alpine heights. The area still offers so many undiscovered places, so many fantastic winter hikes and, of course, the big highlights - so that we can always discover new highlights every time we visit.

Candlelight tour of the castle Berchtesgaden
A royal castle in Berchtesgaden? Not many people know this. The Wittelsbachs took over the former Augustinian monastery in 1810 and still like to spend their summer retreats here today. The museum is a gem of historical art and weapons, and the evening tours are particularly atmospheric.

The echo of the Königssee - even with snow
It lies there like a jewel, framed by towering mountains: the Königssee. A boat trip is possible at any time of year. Only when the lake is frozen over do the electric boats stay in their rustic boat huts on the lakeside and the world-famous echo of the fjord-like waters falls silent. However, due to its water depth of up to 190 meters and the topographical conditions, this only happens every 7 to 10 years.

Up high by car
An uralpine experience without any effort awaits guests on a drive along the Rossfeld panoramic road. Once you have negotiated the many hairpin bends, you will reach the highest point. The top of the road is over 1,500 meters above sea level. From here you have a clear view of the snow-covered Kehlsteinhaus, which is inaccessible during the winter months, the rugged precipices of the Hoher Göll and the friendly valleys of the Salzburg and Berchtesgaden countryside. The Rossfeld ski hut is located directly on the road and promises a rustic stop-off with tasty delicacies, especially during the hustle and bustle of the ski season.

Deer feeding in the national park Berchtesgaden
The winter hike from Hintersee to Klausbachtal for deer feeding is popular with locals and guests alike. Up to 50 red deer, which do not find enough food in the mountain forest in winter, show themselves to winter hikers at feeding time. The specially constructed observation platform is barrier-free. National park rangers are often on hand to answer all questions from young and old. For a particularly romantic experience, take a horse-drawn sleigh ride into the Klausbach Valley.

Always follow the "Haserl" to
Lake Höglwörther See is an idyllic moorland lake in the Rupertiwinkel not far from the municipality of Anger. Due to its shallow depth, it freezes over relatively quickly in winter. As soon as the ice is stable, you can hear loud bangs: The curlers are at it, their sticks whizzing across the ice. The aim is to maneuver as close as possible to the so-called "Haserl" and clear the opposing curling sticks out of the way. A winter hike around the romantic lake with the former monastery building on a picturesque peninsula becomes a complete winter experience by watching the curlers.

Pure relaxation underground
Unique in Western Europe, the salt healing tunnel offers a wonderful relaxation experience. The constant climate and the special air in the salt dome of the Berchtesgaden salt mine, 650 m deep inside the mountain, is particularly beneficial for body and soul. The respiratory organs in particular enjoy this time out. Wrapped in warm blankets on comfortable loungers, it is a great way to relax and leave everyday life behind. The salt mine's mine train takes you in. Daily health entrances, but also very special events with music and meditation accompaniment take place regularly.
