Bright spots in the Hallertau hop region

Winter

WINTER HIKING IN HOP COUNTRY.

Between Celts, monasteries and hop poles.

The hop country around Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm and Freising is perhaps a rather unusual winter destination for many. However, there is a lot to discover and, above all, it turns out to be an absolute hiker's paradise. Lonely paths meander around the villages, along hop fields and monasteries. And we are always hot on the historical heels of the Celts.

8 bright spots for the winter in Hopfenland:

Hop museum in Wolnzach
The landscape around Pfaffenhofen is characterized by hop cultivation. In Wolnzach, an entire, extremely modern museum has been dedicated to this important crop. Here we learn about everything that connects the region with hops, from botany and the art of brewing to history and the hop trade.

Celtic Trail Manching
The Celtic Trail starts directly at the Celtic Museum Manching. Our path leads us through the gate directly onto the historic Celtic rampart. Parts of it can still be seen in many places and information boards provide background information.

celtic roman museum manching
The celtic roman museum in manching can be perfectly combined with a hike along the celtic trail. Over 2000 years ago, Manching was home to one of the largest and most important Celtic cities in Central Europe. Around 100 years after its decline, the Romans settled here to set up a military camp to secure the border in what is now the district of Oberstimm. The kelten römer museum manching presents unique finds from over 100 years of archaeological excavations of the world's best-studied Celtic town and the Roman fort and allows visitors of all ages to experience the everyday life of the people of the time up close.

Hiking on the Ilmdamm Trail
The hike starts in the center of Geisenfeld. Right at the beginning, we are enchanted by the sensory garden and then hike along the dam. We pass several lakes and the very brave can certainly take a dip here - but a dreamy view is enough for us. Lake Lorenzi is a home to water sports enthusiasts, especially in summer. Back in Geisenfeld, we make a detour to the monastery.

The panoramic trails around Pfaffenhofen
Four panoramic trails can be explored from Pfaffenhofen. In winter in particular, these open up a very special view of the hop country. With iced hop poles, frozen lakes and ponds and, of course, the peace and power of the monasteries and chapels.

The Planetary Trail in Scheyern
The Planetary Trail is a model representation of our solar system and was developed by a project group from Schyren-Gymnasium Pfaffenhofen in collaboration with Scheyern Monastery. Along the Scheyern Benedictine Way, we not only learn all kinds of things about the members of the planetary family, but also explore the proportions of our solar system.
